Earlier this year we sadly parted company with our lovely retired ex-racer 'Oliver'. We were greatly saddened, and felt we should leave some time before adopting again. We barely held out for a month, before our love for these beautiful dogs, drew us to start the search for another.
After browsing a few internet sites, I contacted Jenny Bunting at the Brighton RGT to enquire about visiting hours etc, and we arranged to visit the following day. Super excited, we drove to the Twineham RGT kennels hoping to meet our next family member. We were met by Jenny and her staff and were amazed at the kennels cleanliness, the good health and condition of the Greyhounds, and the happy and pleasant atmosphere.
We were smitten with 'Delboy', a super elegant 'Blue' 4 year old. Upon meeting him, I firstly noticed how gentle he was, I've never met such a docile dog. An important factor, given that we have a six year old son. Secondly, his top notch condition and lovely 'Greyhound' doggy smell, and friendly nature. Del, had found his retirement home.
'Delboy' aka 'Derek Blue'/'Derekados Rapidos'/'Mr Trotter' etc, now lives on his fluffy bed in our front sitting room. He passes his time resting, looking lovely, sleeping, playing nicely, dozing off for a bit, and being a perfect pet, friend and companion. He readily adapted to our home, has never had any smelly accidents nor been destructive. He's totally fine left a while, and plays nicely with our son and his 3 year old cousin. He's friendly to all he meets and has coasted into his new life.
We were further pleased to receive 6 weeks free insurance for Delboy through petplan charity cover, we received all his vaccination details and card. Further to that Delboy came well equipped with a walking jacket, house collar, walking collar and lead, humane muzzle, fresh vaccination, even a temporary tag with the Brighton RGT phone number. Jenny was also kind enough to forward us a DVD containing footage from a couple of Delboys races, where he's placed 1st (Idle boast).
We're as pleased as punch, and we know Delboy feels the same. It's a real delight to see his expressions when he encounters new things. Delboy knows he's got big boots to fill, and has made the greatest start by entering our deep affections. He's a star.
